Sneaker care guide

Introduction

Anyone that ever wore a pair of white sneakers probably has at least once wondered how they can make sure that their sneakers stay nicely white and fresh. In this guide we explain step by step how we like to maintain our sneakers, but we start explaining how to clean them up.

Learn how to:

  • Clean your sneakers safely and effectively , remove dirt, wash with the right cleaner, and let them dry naturally.
  • Protect your sneakers from future stains, use a protector spray to keep water and dirt out.
  • Pick the right tools for the job, from soft brushes to microfiber cloths, matched to the material of your sneakers.
Step 1.

Cleaning your sneakers

Thoroughly brush your shoes with a brush to remove any loose dirt and dust off the shoes. Begin by applying your favourite sneaker cleaner to your sneakers. We prefer Tarrago WASC or Saphir Médaille d'Or Foam Cleaner since it is ready to use. Use a brush and/or cloth to distribute the cleaner over your sneakers. We like to use a mildly moist synthetic brush to clean the upper of our synthetic sneakers and a cloth for the soles. Afterwards rinse off the sneaker cleaner with water. Make sure that you rinse off all the cleaner before setting your sneakers away to dry. Do not place your sneakers on a heat source such as a radiator since this can cause the material of your sneakers to dry out. Your sneakers should look quite a lot better after this first step. If not please feel free to repeat this step again.

You can also clean suede sneakers this way, but please note that suede sneakers are sometimes notorious for bleeding colour due to the poor quality suede used on these sneakers.

Tip!

After washing, speed up the drying process by padding them dry with a microfibre cloth.

Step 2.

Protecting your sneakers

Once your sneakers are fresh and clean, the next step is keeping them that way. Dirt and water are the biggest enemies of your shoes, and without protection, they can quickly undo all your hard work. That’s why we recommend finishing your cleaning routine with a quality protector spray.

Our favourites are Saphir Médaille d'Or Natural Protector Spray and the Tarrago Protector Spray. Both create an invisible shield that repels moisture and prevents dirt from clinging to the surface of your sneakers. The result? Your sneakers stay cleaner for longer, are easier to maintain, and look their best with every wear.

Tip!

Apply a fresh coat of protective spray every month or so to keep your sneakers safe during rainy weather.
