How to use a shoe shine cloth

One of the most essential accessories for shoe maintenance is the shoe polish cloth. This handy cloth is designed to keep your shoes in optimal condition and give them a beautiful shine. Technically, you could wash a shoe polish cloth, which is a sustainable solution to extend the life of your polish cloths. However, a shoe polish cloth contains a high concentration of shoe waxes, oil, pigment, and other substances that could end up on your clothing. Therefore, we do not recommend washing your shoe polish cloths. Instead, we advise simply replacing your polish cloth once it is fully used up.

The good news is that if you use a shoe polish cloth correctly, it can last a very long time before needing replacement. We have created a handy video showing how to use a shoe polish cloth most effectively:

On our website, we distinguish between application cloths and polishing cloths. The difference between the two is usually in the quality of the cloth, the density of the weave, and the finish of the cloth. These aspects determine whether a cloth will shed more or less, how well it absorbs polish, and the softness of the cloth. The latter is especially important during polishing. You can use a polishing cloth to apply shoe cream to your shoes, but we do not recommend using an application cloth as a polishing cloth because they often shed too much and do not provide the optimal shine.

This is our favorite shoe polish cloth, perfect for creating a good mirror shine. Additionally, Saphir Médaille d'Or also makes excellent shoe polish cloths from quality cotton. Order your Saphir Médaille d'Or shoe polish cloth.
